| | sleepy | ] | Since I've finally gotten a proper TV and a more visitor-friendly layout for my den, I'm inviting some friends over for an MST3K party next month. Just a couple of shorts ("Cheating" and "A Date With Your Family"), the main feature "Space Mutiny," and the "Cloverfield" Rifftrax if anyone wants to stick around. I'm not gonna' get too fancy with the refreshments because I really don't have the money for it, but I would like to make some kind of gift bags for my guests. Haven't had time to browse the dollar stores to see what they have, so I thought I'd come to y'all for ideas. I'm passing the buck to you. Any input is much appreciated. |

Anyone here got the recent Rifftrax of Titanic yet?
If you haven't, you need to check it out. It is seriously one of the best things the boys have done. Every joke and riff is brilliant.
But more importantly, Kevin gets to recite his famous line from when they riffed Titanic for the MST3K Oscar special.
All together now...

I actually shouted "PUSH BUTTON PHONING!" XD

[Nov. 26th, 2009|07:31 pm] |
First item: Justin Ziran posted a new item on NECA's new WizKids site this morning. In it, he gives a little insight about what has been going on at Wizkids, what's coming up and even answers some questions from 'Clix (including ActionClix and HorrorClix) players.
Q: Can you tell us about the the next few releases? Thor’s Mighty Chariot – gets pulled into hobby stores by a pair of Asgardian goats on January 13th The Brave and the Bold will hit shelves in March 2010 – The Duo sculpts look really good The new DC Starter hits in May 2010 – Our most colorful take on a starter to date Our 14th Marvel release will street in June 2010 Give it a look. It sheds some interesting light on what's happening in the world of WizKids.
Second item: If you happen to live in/around the greater Salt Lake City area, a friend and I will be running a HeroClix tournament next weekend - Saturday, 05 December 2009:
* What: HeroClix Tournament (sealed booster, 300 points) * Where: Dr. Volt's Comic Connection * When: 12:00 PM
Assuming there are enough players, there will be three rounds. Prizes for the event will be:
* Battlefield Condition #100 * Event Dial #101 * Hammer of Thor-themed map (for participation) And... that's a wrap! |

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! Anybody having their own Turkey Day marathon? I had a mini one last night. Space Mutiny, The Movie, and Beatniks. I'll probably have another one tomorrow! Eat lots of Turkey peoples! |

I bet many know this by now, but still, EXCITEMENT! The episodes for the next set, due out in March, have been announced, and I for one gasped in sheer delight.
Episode 101 - The Crawling Eye Episode 415 - The Beatniks (w/short "General Hospital Part 2") Episode 910 - The Final Sacrifice Episode 1005 - Blood Waters of Dr. Z
When we were told that chances of getting ROWSDOWER! on DVD were almost null, I was totally bummed out. But apparently Shout! offered more money, so we get to have our drinking hero on disc. I, for one, am reallllly excited. 8D |

| More Reba! |
[Nov. 26th, 2009|10:57 am] |
Happy Turkey Day, everyone! We're watching the parade and the hosts keep advertising that there will be More Reba! But what about Brooks and Dunn? Wynonna? Garth? But do I really need more Wynonna? Am I out of Wynonna?
But what would Thanksgiving be without sides? How about My Own Private Idaho . . . Potato? Or little winged potatoes? Or maybe you would prefer stuffing instead of potatoes, in addition to getting your hair cut on Tuesdays?
Finally, I'd love to hear what's on your Turkey Day playlists and what your (vaguely) Thanksgiving-related riffs are. |

Ok guys, I need help finding an episode. In it, there's a chase scene, during which the film's music sounds just like the jetson's theme, and one of the riffers goes "Meet George Jetson!!" Please help! |

During the epic chase scene in Godzilla vs. Megalon...
Joel: Sounds like the Allman Brothers are doing the background music! Servo: Yeah! In fact, that's Duane Allman on the motorcycle there. Heh heh heh! Joel: Ohhhh! Servo: Sorry. Maybe it's Berry Oakley. Crow: Oh, you know my little shortcut!
Crow: This is no place for a convertible! Servo: You know, I think Peter Bogdanovich shot this sequence here. Crow: That's why it's so funny...NOT!
Joel: You know in France, this scene would be considered genius. Servo: I have to remember that route! Cuts fifteen minutes off my drive time.
Crow: Suddenly, we're watching Mannix! Joel: You know in France, Mike Connors is considered a genius. Crow: Mike Connors?! Joel: IS. MANNIX! Servo: There's a lot of congestion on the interstate this morning; you might want to consider an alternate route, say, down the side of a steep mountain! Crow: The man who drove down Everest.
Crow: I haven't seen this much action since Herbie Goes to Mexico! Joel: You know in France, Dean Jones is considered a... Servo: Joel, shut up!!
Servo: Whoa! Hey guys, it's Steve McQueen! Crow: You know, Steve McQueen is considered a... Servo: AHEM! |

I think there was a thread started last year (and I'm sure previous times before) about what you would watch as an MST Turkey Day marathon?
This year mine would go as such...in no real order
- Laserblast - The Undead - Santa Claus (to get into the Christmas spirit) - Mitchell - Final Justice - a series of Shorts including Assignment: Venezuela, Progress Island, Once Upon a Honeymoon, Robot Rumpus to name a few) - Agent for HARM - Prince of Space - Escape 2000 - Jack Frost - Day the Earth Froze (okay so I had a winter theme going this year XD) |

| Favorite Booze/Drinking riffs? |

| [ | mood |
| | giggly | ] | On the radio this morning, the DJ's were talking about going home for the holidays, and they started saying stuff like "Be sure to bring plenty of booze" and "and remember, Alcohol can bring your family together......and tear it apart"
Of course all this reminded me of all the countless booze riffs in MST3K, What are your favorites?
A couple of mine are:
"I was having a nightcap and it got out of hand"
"Later that same drink"
"AND DON'T TOUCH THE BOOOOZE!" |

| | Thanksgiving Theme - Vince Guaraldi | ] | Oh boy, Thanksgiving week. Turkey, cranberries, rum cider, oyster dressing and more pies than humans should be allowed to consume. And while you're digesting, you can take in a crappy holiday movie (2012) or a good one (FANTASTIC MR. FOX) or throw in A DVD of a holiday classic (PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES, MIRACLE ON 34th ST.) or, if you're like me, watch the Lions lose again.
To get you in the holiday mood, I've posted some links to some Thanksgiving goodies. And just for fun, you can watch them in order, old going-to-the-movies style.
First up, the preview:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU5LkAB3zXw
Heh. Okay, so I slipped in a Halloween leftover. Now onto the newsreel:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW2rRIzY9dY&feature=related
And of course, a cartoon:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5JBT-geKzU
And finally a few classic feature clips. This is from PLANES & TRAINS. Yes, you know the scene, so send the kiddos out of the room. Anyone who has been dicked around by a car rental company can empathize with Steve Martin here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4CgLRcYN74&feature=related
I posted the next one on Twitter as a tribute to John Hughes this August. I think it warrants a return showing here. We've all played the dashboard piano at some point while driving home for the holidays, but rarely with as much style as John Candy:
http://www.johncandy.com/VideoDetail.aspx?VideoID=2&VideoSection=0
While not specifically about Thanksgiving, BROADWAY DANNY ROSE has several key scenes that take place on the holiday. This scene also touches on the day in a particularly hysterical fashion:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-HvpZtY1Gg&feature=related
And finally a sneak peak at Christmas, with a new video from Bob Dylan. If you're any kind of a Dylan or Christmas music fan, you need to own his new album CHISTMAS IN THE HEART right now. I told a pal of mine with connections to Bob that a video must be made of the album's break-out polka tune, MUST BE SANTA. Little did I know Bob and his elves were already hard at work. (If you clicked on the link before and got a double helping of Daffy Duck, try it now.) I've gone to plenty of Christmas parties that look like the one depected. Hell, I've even thrown a few of them myself:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLZ8LPIh4Xc
Enjoy! |
